Epson lanceert de Runsense

Alsof de keuze tussen sporthorloges nog niet groot genoeg was! Er komt een compleet nieuwe lijn aan runningwatches en activitytrackers op de markt. En de maker is geen onbekende… Al ken ik dit merk van printers en scanners. Epson lanceert deze maand (vooralsnog alleen in Frankrijk, Duitsland en Engeland) de Pulsense (fitnesstrackers) en Runsense (runningwatches) ranges! En als ik zo de eerste berichten lees… gaan dit sportwatches worden die gaan opboksen tegen de grote gevestigde merken als Polar en Garmin.

[heading size=4 style=underline]Epson Pulsense[/heading]Epson komt met twee lijnen. De Pulsense bestaat uit twee activitytrackers: een watch en een band, beide met ingebouwde hartslagmeter. Deze trackers meten passen, calorieverbranding, hartslag, slaapritme, etc. Data kun je via een app en online programma uitlezen en analyseren. De vormgeving van deze trackers vind ik echt waanzinnig mooi! De prijzen zullen rond de € 160,- (band) en € 210,- (watch) bedragen.

[heading size=4 style=underline]Epson Runsense[/heading]Naast deze lijn introduceert Epson ook de Runsens range, die bestaat uit vier GPS-watches. Ook als er geen GPS-bereik is, zoals in een tunnel, wordt er toch data gegenereerd door de Smart Stride Sensor, die onder ander paslengte meet. De eerste drie watches komen deze maand uit en in november volgt de meest uitgebreide versie, die ook een ingebouwde hartslagmeter heeft. De prijzen zullen variëren van € 180,- tot € 280,-.

[/heading]The Pulsense range is made up of two wearables, both kitted out with heart rate activity monitors – the Pulsense PS-100 and Pulsense PS-500. “Pulsense marks a new chapter in Epson’s history of pioneering new technology,” said Simon Hanley, Product Manager at Epson UK. “Since we first began developing optical heart rate sensing products in Japan, we have been able to refine and minimise the technology to create a range of products that can outperform and offer more benefits than those currently on the market.”

The Pulsense wearables were also launched alongside the Epson Runsense range, which is made up of four GPS sports watches and the top model also has a heart rate model.

Epson Pulsense Features
Both Epson Pulsense models come with an optical heart rate sensor and an accelerometer to accurately monitor heart rate and other health metrics like calories burnt, sleep patterns and your activity levels. The connect to your smartphone via Bluetooth 4.0 LE to the Pulsense View app that lets you review and track your progression. You can even input your calorie consumption and your personal information like height, weight and age to create a more personalised and helpful experience.The Pulsense PS-100 has a simplified LED display, a bit like the Nike FuelBand SE. It weighs just 31g making it easy to wear while exercising. If you want a little more information on your wrist, you can opt for the PS-500. That comes with an LCD display indicating your heart rate, number of steps taken and the caloris you’ve burnt. The data and time is always displayed too. As it’s connected to your phone, you can get smartphone notifications as well on both Pulsense models.The Epson Pulsense PS-100 is the cheaper model at £129.99 and is available in turquoise and black. The PS-500 is a little more expensive at £169.99 and only comes in black. You will be able to buy both later this month.
